Discipleship - Interested?
You understand what discipleship is, so no need to unpack a long explanation of
the foundational elements of what Jesus felt so passionately about, right? We learn
how important this was to Jesus in Matthew 28:19-20 where he implored His disciples
to, “go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the
Father, and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey
everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very
end of the age.” This is the Great Commission and the pillar of discipleship.
Christian discipleship is much more than simply following Jesus. A lot of people
claim they follow Christ, but in reality, according to Barna Research, only 9% of
those who claim to be Christians truly have a biblical worldview. No wonder non-Christians
have a hard time seeing a difference between what they’re doing and what those who
claim to follow Christ are doing on this earth.
CBMC has a time-tested discipleship process that has transformed thousands of lives
over the past 20 years. It’s called Operation Timothy (OT). Our process is Christ-centered
and highly relational. It is what we call “life-on-life” because we unite a would-be-disciple
(we call him a Timothy) with a CBMC member who is mature in his faith (we call him
a Paul). In the Bible, 1 & 2 Timothy explain how the Apostle Paul poured into Timothy’s
life over a period of years and the fruit that came from that life-on-life relationship
was magnificent. OT pairs one Paul with one Timothy as together they explore their
roles as messengers of Jesus Christ.
